Chapel
Chapel services, led by the pastor, principal, and teachers are held in
the church each Wednesday morning at 8:10 A.M. Parents and friends
are welcome to worship with us. Chapel offerings are forwarded to
recipients selected each month by a different class in the school.
Music
St. John has an extensive music program, which includes the following:
Each year, the Lutheran Schools of Indianapolis host a Music and Art Festival,
bringing together students from all our schools to share the gifts they
have been given in music.
Academic Enrichment
St. John offers a number of opportunities for enrichment each year. A
select team of students in grades 6-8 participates in the Lutheran
Schools Bible Quiz. A select team also competes in the state competition of the
Junior Academic Super Bowl. Students are involved with the National Geographic
Geography Bee, as well as team and individual competitions for grades 3-8. During February and March,
students in grades 1-8 participate in either a Science Fair or a Science
Olympic Game. Students in grades 1-8 participate in Spelling Bees at St. John.
Students in the upper grades are also encouraged to participate on the
Scrabble Team.
Athletics Our athletic teams compete
with area private schools in regular competition and several tournaments.
The following are offered on an interscholastic level:

Soccer (fall): 5-8 boys

Volleyball (fall): 5-8 Girls

Basketball (winter): 5-8 Boys, 5-8 Girls

Cheerleading: 5-6 Girls (no try-outs), 7-8 Girls (try-outs)
A physical examination is required annually for each student who participates
in any interscholastic sport. The required form is available in the
school office. No physicals are provided by the school. A schedule of athletic activities is included each week in the school
newsletter.
Spanish
St. John currently offers introductory Spanish instruction in some of the
K-4 classes. |
