THE
MISSION OF ST. JOHN LUTHERAN SCHOOL is to provide, in partnership with
parents, a Christian Education, which guides children to know Jesus as
their Savior through God’s Word, and to strive for academic
excellence in a life of service to Him.
From Mr. Kerr:
Just
how personal is this God we serve? After He had been teaching for as
while, Jesus asks his disciples, “Who do people say that I am?"
The disciples told him that the people thought He was John the
Baptist, or Elijah, or Jeremiah. Jesus then asked Peter, "But
what about you, Peter? Who do you say I am?" I love Peter’s
answer. He said, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living
God." Jesus replied to Peter, "Blessed are you, Simon son of
Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in
heaven”. (Matthew 16)
I
think there are two things about this exchange that speak to those of
us trying to live as His disciples in this world. Note the questions
that Jesus asks. First He asks, “What do THEY think?” Then He
asks, “What do YOU think?” Even from the earliest time, disciples
knew that their understanding of Jesus was often different from what
the rest of the world thought. He might ask that same question today,
“What does the world think of me?” As we consider the answer to
that question, He would then look at us and ask, “And how about you?
What do you think of me?”
Our
answer is important. Peter said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the
Living God.” Look how Jesus responded. He told Peter that he was
able to make that confession not because the world had taught him that
truth, but rather because God had revealed it to His heart. The faith
that disciples have is not something we have come up with after
thinking it over. It is a gift of God, the working of the Holy Spirit
in our hearts. Our knowledge of Him is not something that WE have
done. It’s something that GOD has done for us.
I
thank God for this gift of faith and ask Him to continue to give us
opportunities each day to share that faith with others. People already
know what the world thinks about Jesus. Let’s always be willing to
tell them what we think.

Chapel
Offering Recipients: In
response to God’s love, we receive an offering at every chapel
service and designate a variety of recipients throughout the year. Our
August and September chapel offerings have been designated to Lutheran
World Relief, a partner with the LCMS that is assisting with the needs
of those affected by the floods in Pakistan during this past month.
The floods have covered more than 50,000 square miles and left six
million people in dire need of assistance.
Chapel Offerings
for Wednesday, September 1, 2010 were $84.56.
CELEBRATING
BAPTISM BIRTHDAYS: Each
week, St. John students celebrating their Baptism Birthdays are
recognized in the Chapel Service.
Through the waters of baptism, God has washed away our sin;
given us His Holy Spirit, called us by name into His family, made us
one with Christ, and strengthens our faith for the Christian walk.

SAVINGS PROGRAM: Would you be
interested in an easy way to teach your young children to save and
give them a mission opportunity at the same time? As a service to our
families, St. John offers a savings book that can be filled with 25
cent stamps purchased from the office. When the $25 booklet is full,
parents send it to the Lutheran Church Extension Fund, where it earns
interest while making funds available to help with church building
projects around the world. Stamps can be purchased in any amount and
at any time. Some of our students already have books filled and
earning interest. You can find out more about LCEF at www.lcef.org.
