School News: Aug. 16, 2016
Parents – this informative newsletter is sent home each TUESDAY of the school year. Most will not be this long. This is a special beginning of the year edition.
PLEASE READ ENTIRE NEWSLETTER, THERE ARE IMPORTANT PROCEDURE GUIDELINES MID WAY THROUGH.
SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT THIS WEEK
Our theme for this school year is “The Fruit of the Spirit”. We will be looking at the words of Galatians 5:22-23. “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.”
The “fruit” spoken of in these passages is singular, the sum total of all of the characteristics mentioned. The fruit we bear as a result of living for Christ is not just one or another. The life of a Christian will express all of these as a response to God’s love in Jesus. They are evident as we use the gifts given to each of us by the Holy Spirit in service to God. We will take a closer look at that each week this year.
We hope you will join us on our journey.

MORNING ARRIVAL: Because of supervision issues, all students arriving before 7:40 AM must report or be taken to early care in the 8th grade classroom. (Those arriving after 7:35 AM are not charged for this supervision). Students are not to be at the classrooms until the teacher is there. Teacher morning devotion and meeting time runs from 7:20 AM to 7:40 AM. Parents, we need your help with this.
MORNING DROP OFF/AFTER SCHOOL DISMISSAL: For the safety of our students, please drop off at the west end ONLY and pick up at the west & east end doors, (S1) based on what grade your children are in, ONLY. DO NOT USE THE FRONT DOORS, unless your child is late.
WEB PHOTO PERMISSION: From time to time we publish school pictures on our website. No names are used on these photos. Please let us know if you would prefer that your child's photo not be published.
FREE AND REDUCED PRICE LUNCHES: Families interested in an application for free/reduced lunch prices for 2016-17 should contact the school office. These forms are available throughout the school year. Please note - applications must be made every year.
WELLNESS POLICY. St John annually reviews and updates its School Wellness Policy, which includes guidelines for nutrition, as well as goals for nutrition education and physical education.
TARDINESS: All students (K-8) arriving after classes begin at 8:00 AM, regardless of the reason, must report to the office before going to class. These students will be given a slip, which will admit them to class after devotions have concluded and if there is a break in the Christian Education lesson. Tardiness is considered “excessive” if it happens more than 5 times in one semester and will be entered on the student’s permanent record as such.
PARKING: Since much of our parking lot is used during recess times, DO NOT PARK BEHIND THE BUILDING BY THE KITCHEN DOOR. Because of the basketball courts, it is not advisable to park closer to the baskets than the west entry doors. When lining up to drop off students in the morning, please stay in the drive lane and away from parking spaces at the west end of the parking lot. This will allow access to those parking spaces when the rest of the lot is full. There is a map available in the office.
ALL TEACHERS are responsible for a specific area of afternoon dismissal. They must be at these locations between 2:55 PM and 3:15 PM. Please understand if they cannot talk with you between those times. Teachers are available after 3:15 PM. Thanks for your help and cooperation in this matter.
MARION COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT INFORMATION: PARENTS, PLEASE CALL THE OFFICE WHEN YOUR CHILD IS ILL or absent for any reason.
