School News: Dec. 6, 2016

I once saw a painting of Niagara Falls that showed a bird sitting on a nest behind the falling water. Close to 750,000 gallons of water pour over the falls every second, and the noise level is quite high, so that is quite a picture of one of God’s creatures being at peace.

We long for that peace in our lives. Movies, songs, stories – all echo the same plea every year at this time. There is something in the human heart that longs for peace even when that peace is so elusive.

Not only did our Lord give us that desire for peace, He also gives us the pathway to it. Isaiah 9:6-7 says, “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

The Holy Spirit of God, whom we know through our Savior, Jesus, brings that peace to our hearts. Peace is a fruit expressed in our lives because of the Holy Spirit living in us. May we all experience that peace this Christmas season, and may we remember to ask God daily to give us opportunities to share that peace with others.

Thank you to all of our students and parents for the overwhelming response to the food drive for this year. Volunteers from Franklin Township picked up almost double the amount of food and other items than we have provided in recent years. Your generosity and support is greatly appreciated.

The NOEL HOUSE will be open on Mon., Dec 12 and Tues., Dec 13. For your convenience, a NOEL HOUSE envelope will be sent home TODAY with the students. This will help our volunteers know your child’s shopping list and funds.

We need volunteers to help with the Noel House Christmas shop on December 12 & 13th. We need people to help the younger kids select gifts for their parents, grandparents and siblings. If you can help please contact: Anita Peterson 317-506-3240 or sign up directly @

Put on your aprons and start baking. We would like to do something special for the staff at St. John Lutheran this Christmas Season, and we need your help to make this possible. On Fri., Dec. 16, we would like to have a cookie event for the staff members and fill the workroom with plates of homemade goodies. Then, each staff member will get a box and fill it with an assortment of goodies that they choose. (Items do not have to be homemade) Any questions please ask Nicole Hartley 317-626-6907 or fast direct.

In the event that school must be closed or delayed, parents will find out about it in three ways:

  1. St. John App (download yours today).

  2. Message through Fast Direct to all parents.

  3. Local channels - WRTV, WISH, WTHR (the least reliable option).

Please be careful in the parking lot on days with ice or snow. We have a plowing contract for the lot, but we rely on volunteers for the sidewalks and ice removal. We recommend you drop off at the west door on days when snow or ice appears to be a problem in the lot.
