SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT THIS WEEK
Kindness can be defined as “an eagerness to put others at ease”. The next fruit of the spirit, goodness, can be defined as “generous and open-hearted”. They are similar, but the first seems to describe an action, while the second can often describe a condition of the heart. It is hard to distinguish between them, but I believe most parents would be able to think of examples of both as we deal with our children.
The familiar Psalm 23 says, “Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever” (v 6). The goodness of God is present in His mercy toward us. It is hard to explain how God can be so good toward a creation that has consistently turned against Him. But while we were yet sinners, He sent His Son to do for us what we could not do for ourselves. Our sins are forgiven. God is so good.

LUTHERAN SCHOOLS BIBLE QUIZ
The annual event takes place Tuesday evening, November 1 at 7:00 PM at Lutheran High School. Our team of 5th-8th graders has been studying the Gospel of Matthew since the end of August and continues to prepare for this always tough academic competition. Thanks to Mrs. McCartney and Miss Thomas for coaching this team.
The end of September means that shorts are no longer allowed according to our dress code. However, we have an opportunity that will benefit the athletics ministry of St. John. Students can wear shorts for $1 any day in October from the 3rd – 31st. If you would rather pay all at once, it will be a bargain of $12. Regular school dress code applies – NO JEANS! All money will go toward athletics for general needs.
