SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT THIS WEEK
Kindness is defined as “the quality of being friendly, generous, AND considerate.” I notice that it does not say “or”. It is not multiple choice.
Jesus is all of these things. His friendliness shows as He interacts with people of all kinds in all walks of life. His generosity is obvious because he gave us what is most precious to anyone, His life. His consideration is seen in how he deals with people of all kinds, even those who are ignoring the very message He came to proclaim. Now Jesus is not bound by a dictionary definition, but it is clear that He is the very description of these words.
Through faith, the fruit of the Spirit is …… kindness. Can you find a way to be friendly this week to someone other than a close friend? Can you find a way to be generous? Can you look for ways to be considerate of others? Lord, bless us with your Holy Spirit this week as we let this kindness be expressed in our lives.
SCHOOL PICTURE DAY IS TOMORROW
Order forms were sent home last week with students. There are extra forms outside the office. All students will be photographed for the school yearbook and identification purposes whether pictures are purchased or not. All portrait orders must be PREPAID using the envelope provided. Make checks payable to Inter-State Studio. NOTE – The school dress code is relaxed that day. However, since they do not appear in the photos, jeans are still not allowed.
THIS JUST SCHEDULED
Grades 3-8. Next Monday, October 3 at 8:30 AM. Because of our participation in the national “Every Kid Votes” program, the Every Kid Learns Foundation and the Responsibility Foundation have approved an assembly at St. John with basketball all-stars “Pee Wee” Harrison, a former member of Meadowlark Lemon’s Harlem All-Stars, along with “Hollywood” Brown, a former Harlem Globetrotter. Together they are trekking across the country to meet with governors, students, teachers, principals, celebrities, VIPs, and putting on school assemblies. Their message? Responsibility. St. John was selected as one of 50 schools nationwide to host this assembly. See more at www.driveforresponsibility.org.
Conferences for Pre-School through Grade 4 are scheduled for after school on Wed., Oct. 12 and Thurs., Oct. 13. Students will bring home a sign-up sheet today, or you can also find the form as an attachment to a Fast Direct message from the office. These request forms must be returned to the classroom teacher by this Friday, Sept. 30th.
NOTE: As shared in August, P/T conferences for students in grades 5-8 are being handled differently this year. Please see information sent home by your child’s teacher for more information.
The end of September means that shorts are no longer allowed according to our dress code, however starting Monday, Oct. 3rd, we have a new and exciting opportunity that will benefit the athletics ministry of St. John. Students can wear shorts for $1 any day in October from the 3rd – 31st. If you would rather pay all at once, it will be a bargain of $12. Regular school dress code applies – NO JEANS! All money will go toward athletics for general needs.
